Ski holiday without skiing

It has been awhile. It seems as though I am not such an avid blogger. At least not compared to my book club friend Charlotte, who writes on her blog at least once per day. That is how it feels like anyway. Keep it up Charlotte. I like your blog.

So, it is this time of the year again. What time? Winter time, which means skiing time. The only problem is that I do not ski. How come I do not ski, being Swedish and all, when my Greek husband really likes to ski? Well, the easy answer is that I hate all the equipment and extra clothing that I need. And the cold. And no, no one can persuade me to put on more clothes and tell me that I will be fine. Just ask all the people in Stockholm who, during winter, saw me in ski pants every day on the subway going to work...

So what do I do when the rest of the family is hitting the slopes. I exhale. The loner in me exhales. And then I go for walks, read books, swim, catch up with friends online, and do some other activities depending on where we go.

When the whole family goes on skiing trips, we usually go to Whistler, Canada or to Squaw Valley near Lake Tahoe, California. We prefer Squaw Valley, because it is small, easy to get to, and not as commercial as Whistler.

And Squaw is where we are at the moment. It is mid-term break for Zoe, so we took the opportunity to go on this little trip. We arrived in Reno on Wednesday evening, picked up a rental car, and drove up to Squaw. The trip took a little longer than usual because of all the snow. And it is snowing heaps here. It has actually snowed non-stop since we arrived. My husband is happy and managed to ski in snow up to his neck yesterday. I am glad he did not take Zoe on that little side trip:)

Time to read a bit before I get little Irene from the ski school.

And yes, I will try to post some pictures tomorrow.
